HighQ has been named Legal Technology Company of the Year by the Financial Times at the publication’s annual ceremony, which recognised leaders driving the convergence of data and technology within the legal profession.
In honouring HighQ, along with Thomson Reuters, which acquired the company in July 2019, the Financial Times recognised HighQ as “one of the earliest legal technology companies” with products that have been behind many of the legal innovations to emerge in the industry.
HighQ also was featured in the Financial Times’ FT Intelligent Business Report, which is published in partnership with research partner RSG Consulting. The report has become one of the top legal rankings in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific.
In this year’s report, Financial Times emphasised recognising “the ideas and people behind the integration of data, technology and professional services.”
“[HighQ] was one of the first to put its apps in the cloud and offer software as a service,” Financial Times added. “It took six years for HighQ to win its first client, but it has grown to employ 400 people.”
In addition to recognising HighQ and Thomson Reuters, Financial Times singled out HighQ founder Ajay Patel as one of 10 market shapers “setting a new course” in the legal technology space.
“As a non-lawyer, Mr. Patel was an unlikely founder of one of the very first successful legal technology companies but his time as a dealmaker made him realise the inefficiencies in the way that documents were handled in big transactions,” Financial Times reported. “Mr. Patel expanded HighQ’s suite of software and it became a leader in collaboration technology for the legal and regulatory market.”
