UnitedLex’s end-to-end internal eDiscovery support delivers enhanced productivity and efficiency for Am Law 50 firm
UnitedLex, a leading global provider of legal and business technology and consulting services, announced the completion of the first phase of its partnership to provide Goodwin Procter LLP, a national Am Law 50 firm, with an insourced eDiscovery support team.
Despite the rising costs and risks associated with litigation support services, UnitedLex has delivered improved service levels and cost savings for Goodwin Procter and its clients.
Seeing an opportunity to enhance efficiencies within its litigation support division, Goodwin engaged UnitedLex to develop a strategic, efficient team that provides increased value to its lawyers and clients while saving the firm time and money. UnitedLex absorbed Goodwin’s eDiscovery services team, providing intensive training and rebranding the team as the Goodwin eDiscovery Solutions Center. The full-time dedicated team supports Goodwin’s business onsite in its Boston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, DC, offices in addition to a dedicated variable based team in Kansas City and Cincinnati.
“Insourcing our eDiscovery team with UnitedLex – a brand we know and trust – was an excellent decision for Goodwin Procter, from both a client services and a strategic business perspective,” said Catherine Woodward Gill, Goodwin Procter’s Chief Practice Management Officer for Litigation. “We now have a better-trained, fully managed, onsite eDiscovery department that knows our business, clientele and culture inside and out. The eDiscovery Solutions Center has supported more than 100 cases since inception, providing enhanced service levels, professionalism, resources and domain expertise.”
As a further result of insourcing to UnitedLex, the eDiscovery Solutions Center has increased the breadth of its case support while adding intrinsic value for new and existing clients, by providing direct access to the UnitedLex platform. UnitedLex also provides Goodwin’s Relativity SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) environment, which gives the firm total administrative control of the software without the required capital expenditure. UnitedLex further provides managed document review services, which in combination with the SaaS instance, reduces the costs of document review through increased efficiencies and UnitedLex’s ability to leverage TAR (Technology Assisted Review) in a cost-effective and defensible manner.
“Working side by side with Goodwin Procter, we have been able to transform the firm’s eDiscovery function into a valuable strategic asset,” said David Deppe, President of UnitedLex. “This is a great example of the benefits that can be achieved by progressive law firm management dedicated to providing high value to its clients. We are very pleased to contribute to Goodwin Procter’s ongoing success.”
The program includes ongoing training and education of Goodwin attorneys and staff as a key benefit of this partnership. The firm holds quarterly technology summits, open houses and CLEs focused on eDiscovery, risk management, data protection and privacy, and safe harbor.
