Today Deloitte Central Europe is announcing the expansion of Deloitte Legal’s Center of Excellence (CoE), based in Bucharest, to support clients and Deloitte Legal professionals around the world in delivering innovative legal technology solutions.
The Deloitte Legal CoE supports Deloitte Legal’s global network of legal practices in the areas of business development, service delivery and legal technology. It enables knowledge-sharing across the business and the ability to leverage technology to deliver seamless, integrated, cross-border services for multinational clients.
Among the first examples of how the Deloitte Legal CoE is expanding its legal technology capabilities is a new collaboration with UiPath, a global leader in robotic process automation (RPA). Through this strategic collaboration, both organizations will design, develop and implement cutting edge Robotic and Cognitive Automation (RCA) solutions for clients around the world.
This Deloitte Legal CoE and the UiPath collaboration aims to help legal professionals leverage technology to increase efficiencies and navigate a rapidly transforming legal industry. Traditionally seen as the enterprise’s lawyer-in-chief, general counsels (GCs), and the teams they oversee, are now expected to perform a much broader role as a partner to the rest of the organization and a trusted adviser to senior management. At the same time the legal function is under pressure to cope with an expanding set of regulations, heightened public scrutiny, and business models which are adapting to digital and other opportunities, creating an increased and more global need to manage legal risk.
“Making better use of advanced technologies will be crucial as increased demands are placed on the legal function,” says Piet Hein Meeter, Deloitte Global managing director, Deloitte Legal. “Through this first-of-its-kind collaboration, Deloitte Legal and UiPath will provide automation solutions to enable organizations to maximize efficiency, reduce cost and free lawyers’ time to work more closely with the organization as a trusted business partner.”
“Legal departments and law firms are in the unique position to take RPA to the next level in its evolution by designing innovative legal processes that are far more complex than simple repetitive tasks. UiPath’s Legal Automation Program is first of a kind in the RPA space and is a testament to the unforeseen opportunities RPA can have. Automating legal, compliance and other regulatory mandatory processes will impact the way we think about compliance with law and will shift the perception that legal compliance delays business opportunities and instead is actually driving them,” says Vasile Tiple, UiPath Deputy General Counsel. “The foundation of our Legal Automation Program is UiPath’s Automation First principle and its own legal robots that already execute several critical legal and compliance processes for the company with an awesome efficiency, accuracy and speed.”
The collaboration brings together Deloitte Legal’s global scale and its technology, legal, and process experience with the capability, agility, and scalability advantages inherent in the UiPath Robotic Process Automation platform. Together Deloitte Legal and UiPath will create a number of solutions which address specific client pain points, rethink legal processes, and drive greater efficiencies by automating repetitive tasks and freeing up creativity. The solutions will be delivered through Deloitte Legal’s CoE and through Deloitte’s existing RCA capabilities, including the Deloitte Robotics Center of Excellence in Spain.
The first solution co-developed by Deloitte Legal and UiPath is a robot for the legal industry which can search public records such as a securities register, which are frequently accessed in due diligence exercises. This has the potential to drive greater efficiencies – for example in one case the robot performed a search in approximately seven minutes versus the three and a half hours it took a lawyer to do the same thing.
The business impact of this technology is profound as organizations cut the costs of routine work, increase quality and consistency, improve risk management and free up time for lawyers to spend on higher value work.
