Logik, the leader in cloud-based eDiscovery, today announced the creation of a new real-time document redaction feature with automatic tagging & OCR for its flagship application, Logikcull.com. The newly announced feature is available immediately. In document discovery, redactions are a routine and highly manual process commonly done by one person at a time.
The redaction process is fairly straightforward: black boxes are drawn over sensitive information to "redact" it from view, the redactions are saved, and the reviewer advances to the next document requiring redactions. The true complexity of redactions only becomes obvious when you enter the realm of document productions.
"Redaction snafus in productions seem to pop-up every year in document discovery," said Andy Wilson, CEO and co-founder of Logik. "Users assume that simply adding a black box over sensitive information makes it invisible to view. While this makes sense from a usability standpoint, what often happens is either the redactions don't stick or the text of the redacted document isn't itself redacted, making sensitive information readable and searchable to requesting parties. The legal ramifications of this type of misstep can be rather dire."
Instead of worrying whether a redacted document's text was itself redacted, Logikcull customers can now breathe easy with the knowledge that redacted documents will automatically receive updated OCR text when they are produced out of Logikcull. This means the document's text is itself redacted ensuring the redactions are neither readable nor searchable. As an added safety measure, Logikcull automatically generates a "Documents Redacted" report showing which documents contained redactions and, consequently, received updated OCR.
Once incorrectly redacted documents have been produced it can be incredibly time consuming to claw them back or find them in the first place if the documents aren't properly tagged as being redacted. Instead of spending hours or days trying to find which documents have redactions, Logikcull customers can now, in a single click, recall all documents that contain redactions using the new "Has Redactions" tag filter.
"At a fundamental level, if a user redacts a document the software they’re using should be aware of that fact and act accordingly to both track those documents and provide updated OCR text," said CTO and Logik co-founder, Sheng Yang. "Unfortunately, many eDiscovery packages fail miserably at true automation, leaving tasks up to the user to perform. Forcing someone to do what the software should do for them is both tedious and fraught with risk. With Logikcull, we’ve eliminated that tedium and risk through intelligent automation. This helps remove an unnecessary step while empowering the user with the ability to instantly identify and retrieve all of their redacted documents."
Logikcull’s newly-added redaction features are available immediately, at no cost, to all Advanced and Premium Logikcull.com subscribers and do not require plug-ins, specific browsers, or any special software in order to use.
