Phoenix Business Solutions, the premier provider of Knowledge Management and Enterprise Content Management software and consultancy are pleased to announce the results of the APAC legal technology flash survey completed in conjunction with Janders Dean. Results of the survey were announced and presented at the 7th Annual Janders Dean Legal Knowledge & Innovation Conference held last week in Sydney.
Covering topical areas such as cloud computing, collaboration, security, and lawyer productivity, the flash survey was developed to collect and collate valuable information on the current state of the APAC Legal Technology landscape and to identify key trends and challenges facing firms in the areas of technology, knowledge, and innovation.
Ben Weinberger, Chief Strategy Officer, Phoenix Business Solutions, commented, “The results of the survey are quite interesting. We found that most firms already have mature document management systems and are currently looking at ways to further leverage those investments rather than undertaking large scale migration projects which can be quite expensive and not necessarily deliver sensible results.
“We know that firms are focused on looking at ways to improve process and provide better access to information for their lawyers; doing so enables them to operate more efficiently and better serve clients. At the same time, firms have expressed concern about where their client data resides and they appear to be cautious about not shifting costs into their operating budgets for fear of it impacting firm profitability in the face of increasing competition.”
The survey has generated some insightful highlights: 60% of respondents stated that they (or their management) were not considering a move to the public cloud, primarily due to concerns over security or access to client data. A further 30% stated that their decision was based on the fact that a move to the cloud would not deliver meaningful cost efficiencies. And, interestingly, only 22% of APAC law firm IT Directors expressed any interest in investigating public cloud technologies further if given a greater budget by their firms.
The full set of survey results were announced at the 7th Annual Janders Dean Legal Knowledge & Innovation Conference to an exclusive, invitation-only group of law firm senior leadership personnel.
