iManage today announced the launch of iManage Labs, a research and development organization dedicated to exploring how advanced data analytics, new technologies and new forms of computing can transform how professionals work.

Headed by iManage co-founder and Chief Scientist, Rafiq Mohammadi, iManage has recruited and assembled a team of scientists, developers, and architects already at work exploring advanced data solutions and new ways of working.

“One of our core missions of being an independent company is to get back to innovation,” said Neil Araujo, CEO of iManage. “We feel that a dedicated organization spearheading this drive is the best way to focus our efforts. Rafiq has been responsible for many of the innovations that have made iManage successful and we are pleased that he has re-dedicated himself to our mission of leadership in work product management for professionals.”

The new team, which is based in Chicago, acts as an incubator for new ideas, often partnering with customers in exploring the validity of theoretical results in practice. “iManage has always partnered with customers when bringing new innovations to market,” Araujo adds. “We respect and appreciate the trust our customers have shown in partnering so tightly with us. Rafiq and his team have the freedom to explore interesting areas, and the ability to tap into the experience of our customers to quickly validate those explorations. The best ideas can then be accelerated in product development.”

Early areas of exploration for iManage labs include:

  • Use of big data analytics and statistical inference to improve user experience, knowledge curation and expertise location;
  • Improving security through the use of big data analytics;
  • Advanced system monitoring to proactively identify performance issues, potential failure conditions the use of big data analytics on system logs to reduce cost of ownership and improve performance and uptime;
  • The use of elastic cloud computing and clustering technologies to enable large-scale management of “big data” content and message sets.

Since the divestiture, iManage has re-tooled its development process and organization into pods that accelerate development of new products by working together across functions. “We are using deep science to solve problems in ways that can have transformational impact,” said Rafiq. “The new labs operation acts as an innovation engine and feeder into this agile development process.”

“Rafiq and his team are already hard at work exploring new ways to use big data in improving both productivity and governance,” Araujo concludes. “We expect to showcase some of the early work for iManage labs at ConnectLive May 11 and 12 in Chicago and May 18 and 19 in London.”
