Lodders Solicitors has turned to iomart company Cristie Data for Backup-as-a-Service after encountering issues with its existing backup solution. The leading regional law firm was using traditional tape backup when issues were noticed during a routine security patch. When the IT team attempted to restore to a backup it quickly became clear that the system being used was inefficient and not performing satisfactorily.
Alex Loquens, IT Director for Lodders Solicitors, said: “Protecting confidential client data effectively and efficiently is vital to our business. Our clients are at the heart of everything we do. As it happens, we had already been in talks with Cristie Data as part of a cyber security review and the issue we noticed recently with our traditional backup escalated our concerns. The usual monitoring and log files had all been telling us everything was ok, but when it came to the crunch it was clear to see the old system no longer catered to the growing needs and demands placed on it.”
The new Backup-as-a-Service solution from Cristie Data now meets Lodders Solicitors’ business critical requirements. Recovery Point and Recovery Time objectives are down to less than an hour and there are weekly scheduled automated recovery tests to provide reassurance that they are being maintained. The data is held in one of iomart’s secure ISO 27001 accredited UK data centres. Lodders have access and hold the encryption keys, which is important for compliance with the new General Data Protection Regulation.
Alex Loquens added: “The managed cloud backup solution from Cristie Data has made a significant difference. In storage and maintenance costs alone we will have saved thousands of pounds over the next three years, plus it has freed me up to concentrate on more technical delivery projects across the rest of the business. We just could not have done this in-house. It would have been very expensive and too time consuming.”
Lodders Solicitors is headquartered in Stratford-on-Avon and has offices in Henley-in-Arden, Cheltenham and Birmingham. The firm provides legal services to thousands of clients.
Ryan Smith, Director of Sales for Cristie Data, said: “Our Backup-as-a-Service provides Lodders Solicitors with a finished solution that delivers defined outcomes for service availability and recoverability. It reassures them that their data is secured, applications are recoverable to their uptime expectations, and their IT support resource isn’t impacted by the management and maintenance of these demands.”
Cristie Data has 40 years’ experience delivering data protection and backup solutions to clients across the private and public sectors. It is part of managed cloud services provider iomart (AIM: IOM).
