Leading law firm, Irwin Mitchell, has awarded a contract to managed services provider, Esteem Systems, to provide a £1.7m solution to transform their IT infrastructure. The investment will support Irwin Mitchell’s domestic and global growth plans; improve services to clients; and improve employee productivity.
The IT investment by Irwin Mitchell follows their substantial organic growth and recent acquisition of PDP Management.
Working strategically with Irwin Mitchell’s in-house IT function, Esteem will design and implement a robust, modular desktop infrastructure that can scale as the firm grows. The solution will improve the experience of employees with instant access to applications and data, regardless of location. Secure remote access to critical applications and data for senior partners and associates working from client sites is a key business requirement.
As part of the solution, Esteem will design and implement a new Microsoft Active Directory; a new 1700 user Citrix environment with the latest version of XenApp; a secure streamlined mobile solution for over 600 laptop users; and migrate 2300 email users to Exchange 2010. Esteem will also implement System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2012 to aid the management of the new environment. Appsense technology will be used to manage the 2300 user profiles, and the number of applications in use will be consolidated down from 3000 to 75 in order to simplify on-going management.
Esteem will also provide a new HP server environment, 1600 new HP thin clients and 300 new HP notebooks and will deliver on-going support and maintenance for the hardware to ensure its continued performance and efficiency.
The new infrastructure will allow Irwin Mitchell to cost effectively add users and devices as required to support future mergers and acquisitions, should the right opportunities arise for it as a business.
Tim Kiel, IT Director at Irwin Mitchell said: “This investment will impact our business in three key ways. It will significantly improve the IT experience of our employees; enable us to deliver an even better service to our clients; and will support our global growth plans. From an IT operational perspective, working with one strategic partner for our IT infrastructure and support will simplify the supplier management process, and deliver substantial cost savings.”
Group Sales & Marketing Director for Esteem, Alastair Kitching, said: “By working strategically with Irwin Mitchell we’re able to deliver a solution that contributes to their business objectives. We’re working with a number of the UK’s leading legal organisations, and providing employees with rapid access to the applications and data they need from anywhere, on any device is essential for them all in order to drive productivity and business growth.”
The project is scheduled to be completed by May 2013.
