MacRoberts LLP, one of Scotland's pre-eminent law firms, has announced it has selected SeeUnity's Sync Studio for automated publishing to a new client extranet portal based on SharePoint 2013. Mr. Robert Crichton, IT Director at MacRoberts, indicated content synchronization has been part of MacRoberts' ongoing strategy to provide superior client service.
"Our legal counsel relies heavily on our information assets – over seven terabytes' worth," said Mr. Crichton. "Each client requires direct access to a small fraction of this data. In the past, we've manually searched this data; we then manually copied and transferred relevant content to clients." The firm's IT department and management came to a consensus that automating delivery of client content could reduce man-hours while improving service.
After examining several options, MacRoberts selected SeeUnity's Sync Studio product. Sync Studio provides strong support for HP WorkSite, the ECM system that internally manages the firm's content. "We need a product that can take advantage of the indexing and metadata structure built around our information libraries," said Mr. Crichton. "Sync Studio will read that metadata, so we can automate targeted publishing of client-specific content." Sync Studio offers the flexibility needed for MacRoberts to progress an ambitious collaboration portal roadmap.
Working with a specific customer to build and test the solution, MacRoberts plans to use Sync Studio to identify relevant customer content by location and metadata, and replicate it to corresponding folders on a SharePoint 2013 extranet portal. If changes are made to the WorkSite source content, Sync Studio will automatically mirror them out to SharePoint.
Pending successful implementation, MacRoberts is planning a staged rollout across the firm, followed by bidirectional synchronization. Future Sync Studio-enabled features are planned to automate archiving SharePoint content to WorkSite libraries, and cross-system drop-box collaboration.
