The International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) has announced its endorsement of an educational opportunity for its members to enroll in Suffolk University Law School’s Legal Innovation and Technology Certificate.
The Certificate is a first-of-its-kind online program consisting of six courses designed to prepare legal professionals to work more effectively and efficiently in a rapidly changing legal marketplace. The heralded program is ideal for attorneys and legal professionals (e.g., legal operations professionals, law librarians, paralegals, technology specialists, legal project managers, legal solutions architects, marketing officers, compliance officers, etc.) who are dedicated to preparing their firms and organizations, and themselves, for the future.
“This program is an excellent investment of time and money,” says Colin S. Levy, LIT Certificate Alumnus. “It not only gave me insight into key areas any 21st century legal professional needs to be aware of, but it also encouraged me to embrace change wholeheartedly within both the business and practice of law.”
Offering term starts in summer, fall, or spring, courses in the LIT Certificate program are delivered 100% online by legal industry leaders and cover cutting-edge learning and skills that 21st century legal professionals need. Courses included in the program are Legal Operations, Process Improvement & Legal Project Management, 21st Century Legal Services, Design Thinking for Legal Professionals, The Business of Delivering Legal Services, and Legal Technology Toolkit. Each course can be taken individually or as part of the overall part-time LIT Certificate program, which can be completed in one year (or longer if a student chooses).
Professor Gabriel Teninbaum, director of both the certificate program and Suffolk’s Institute on Legal Innovation and Technology, says adoption of new legal methods and technologies has become a necessity for legal professionals who want to remain competitive. “For the million lawyers, and million or so other legal professionals working now, the question has become: Where do they go to learn about the methods and tools that will allow them to succeed in the coming decades? We think this online program is the answer to that question.”
Each 10-week class requires two to five hours of total commitment per week. The pre-recorded video lectures are available for viewing at the student’s convenience, and there are also opportunities for virtual interactions with faculty and classmates.
