Top Judges, Lawyers & Corporate Counsel to Headline ALM’s Legaltech® New York

An estimated 13,000 professionals will experience interactive demonstrations of the newest legal technology advances during ALM’s Legaltech® New York conference this year, along with 17 tracks of educational programming about the intersection of law and technology.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet inventors of emerging solutions as a benefit of ALM’s partnership with CodeX: The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics, a think tank comprised of Stanford University faculty and students.

This year’s Legaltech New York will take place from February 2-4, 2016 at The Hilton New York in Midtown Manhattan. Further details, including a full schedule of events and speaker biographies, are available here.

“The fast pace of innovation in today’s digital age presents many opportunities to optimize attorney engagement and improve outcomes for clients—but it also requires members of the legal profession to be more vigilant than ever before to protect confidential information,” said Lenny Izzo, President of Legal Media at ALM. “Legaltech New York provides an opportunity to learn about pressing issues affecting law firms and legal departments from the best and brightest minds in the industry, and explore technology solutions that can help them adapt to evolving conditions.”

In addition to the educational tracks on topics such as cybersecurity, eDiscovery, IT, risk compliance and corporate legal operations, which will run concurrently across the three-day duration, Legaltech New York will include keynote discussions and plenary sessions open to all participants. Attendees are eligible to earn CLE credits over the course of the conference. The keynote discussions include:

• “How is Technology Being Used in Today’s Court Rooms and Cases?” (February 2 from 9-10 a.m.) with Hon. James C. Francis and Hon. Andrew J. Peck of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York; Hon. Lorenzo F. Garcia of the U.S. District Court of the District of New Mexico; Hon. Elizabeth D. Laporte of the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California; and Hon. Pamela Meade Sargent of the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Virginia.
• “Private Network Servers, Deleted Emails & Texts and Other Controversies in the News” (February 4 from 9-10 a.m.) with Daniel J. Capra, Reed Professor of Law at Fordham Law School; Jason R. Baron of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, formerly Director of Litigation at the National Archives and Records Administration; Edward B. MacMahon, Jr. of Edward B. MacMahon, Jr., PLC; and Hon. Shira A. Scheindlin of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York.
• “A Day in the Life: The Role of the Digital Age General Counsel” (February 4 from 2-3 p.m.) with Jordan Breslow, General Counsel of Etsy; Brian Chase, General Counsel of Foursquare Labs; and Avi Weisman, Vice President and General Counsel of Avid Life Media (parent company of AshleyMadison.com).

During the conference, representatives from venture-capital startup companies will have the opportunity to demonstrate their new legal technology solutions in a free exhibit space (the “Innovation Pavilion”) on the trade show floor. All exhibitors are chosen by CodeX’s researchers, who primarily focus on developing and implementing computational law.
