LexisNexis has launched a new module to help practitioners adhere to best practice and streamline workflows in an evolving cyber landscape, providing guidance around data security; transfer of data; cybersecurity strategy; and privacy.
The Practical Guidance Cybersecurity, Data Protection and Privacy module is designed to assist practitioners with step-by-step guidance and key resources on the practical aspects of cybersecurity, data protection and privacy matters.
The module has been developed to set out the workflow for cybersecurity matters, including issues to consider when preparing a data security audit plan or a disaster recovery plan. Additionally, checklists, forms and precedents are provided to enable the production of fast and accurate documents to increase efficiency.
Simon Wilkins, General Manager – Australia at LexisNexis says, “Organisations of all sizes across all industries are falling victim to data breaches, as cybercrime has become the number one economic crime in Australia.
“As such, this is no longer just an IT issue, and lawyers will increasingly be expected to provide high level business strategy advice in order to fully protect their clients or organisations from loss of data, privacy breaches and financial harm.”
Organisations often need to consider international laws when dealing with the security of offshore transfers of data, and require guidance on how to build these considerations into their cybersecurity strategy. The module assists this process with guidance in key practice areas for 27 jurisdictions.
The module will also be continually updated to guide practitioners in addressing upcoming compliance obligations, such as the Notifiable Data Breach (NDB) amendment to the Privacy Act, which comes into force as of February 22, 2018. This amendment requires organisations to have processes in place to identify breaches and be fully informed of their obligations in terms of notifying relevant parties in the event of a breach.
“This resource draws on the most up-to-date knowledge of experts to educate practitioners in a fast-growing area of the law, providing a comprehensive foundation for lawyers preparing organisations for the eventuality of cyber-attacks and upcoming legislative change,” concluded Mr Wilkins.
