UnitedLex, a global provider of legal and data solutions, today announced it has expanded its Cyber Security Risk Services practice with the appointment of two industry veterans, Jason Straight as Senior Vice President and Chief Privacy Officer, and Ted Theisen as Managing Director – Cyber Security Consulting.
Together, Straight and Theisen will help UnitedLex clients better understand their cyber risk profile, protect against actual threats to valuable data assets, and respond to security incidents with confidence, speed and accuracy. They will also join UnitedLex’s established Client Solutions and Computer Forensics group.
Jason Straight will operate from UnitedLex’s New York office. Straight previously spent more than a decade at a large cyber security company, most recently as a Managing Director in the Security and Data Breach Response practice. Prior to that, Straight was an Associate at the law firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson in New York. Straight brings demonstrated leadership, along with deep domain expertise in cyber incident response, data risk assessment, data privacy, electronic discovery and litigation management.
Ted Theisen was most recently a leader in a large, nationwide Cyber Security practice and previously helped manage cyber integrity and electronic discovery for the Executive Office of the President of the United States. Prior to that, Theisen spent more than six years conducting cyber investigations for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
“Cyber security ranks among the most pressing risks facing corporations and law firms today. The threat of losing sensitive business data, intellectual property and personal information is real and pervasive but far too many entities – especially in the legal sector – are inadequately protected,” said Dave Deppe, President of UnitedLex. “In response to these threats, UnitedLex is proud to add Jason Straight and Ted Theisen to its Cyber Security Risk Services group. These two industry veterans have extensive experience in managing complex data security assessment projects, conducting cyber investigations and helping clients manage privacy risks and keep pace with this constantly evolving area.”
UnitedLex’s Cyber Security Risk Services group responds to the market’s need with proactive and effective cyber security services to protect valuable corporate and law firm data assets. The group helps UnitedLex clients develop customized and targeted security controls; implement policies, procedures, and tools to increase the level of information security; and handle any subsequent investigations and analysis when faced with a cyber security event.
“As the cyber-threat environment evolves, protecting sensitive information has become an increasingly difficult challenge,” said Theisen. “UnitedLex is committed to helping both corporations and law firms elevate enterprise security awareness, tighten controls around sensitive and valuable data assets, and, above all, be prepared to respond to any cyber-incident that may occur.”
UnitedLex takes a unique, risk-based approach to cyber risk management, combining knowledge of IT security, cyber investigations, computer forensics, privacy law and data breach response best practices to protect its clients. The team has wide-ranging experience conducting vulnerability assessments and security awareness training for corporations in a wide variety of industries including financial services, healthcare, energy, higher education and legal services. As a leading provider of legal services to both law firms and corporate clients, UnitedLex is uniquely positioned to optimize the collaboration between law firms and their corporate clients in protecting valuable information, as well as advising and assisting both parties with governmental or regulatory inquiries surrounding any cyber-related loss.
“We are committed to providing expert technical guidance to inside and outside counsel involved in advising corporations on properly managing cyber risks and information security incidents. In addition, we recognize that law firms are increasingly viewed as softer targets for hackers or cyber thieves. Law firms have access to and maintain extremely sensitive client data, including intellectual property, strategic business information, executive communications, and other personal client information,” said Straight. “Corporations are demanding that their law firms implement solutions that meet or exceed best practices standards for protecting sensitive data. UnitedLex’s Cyber Security Risk Services group focuses exclusively on improving our clients’ preparedness and ability to meet a broad range of cyber threats.”
