WilsonAI Raises $1.7M for AI Paralegal
Global News

Wilson AI logoWilsonAI, the AI-powered legal assistant transforming in-house legal operations, has raised a $1.7 million pre-seed round led by Nomad Ventures. Additional participants include Autopilot Ventures, Entrepreneur First, Transpose Platform, and key strategic angels, including Mei Z, and several exited founders and law firm partners.

The funding will accelerate WilsonAI's development of the world's first AI paralegal, an AI agent that seamlessly integrates with legal teams' existing systems and data, automating repetitive legal tasks such as handling routine legal requests, answering common questions, and reviewing contracts.

An AI paralegal that scales legal teams instantly

Founded in August 2024 by Gus Neate (CEO, ex-Clifford Chance lawyer) and Alex Wang (CTO, ex-D.E. Shaw, developer & quant), WilsonAI is redefining how in-house legal teams operate. The AI paralegal is designed to be hired into legal teams, learning from their internal processes and working alongside lawyers to automate high-volume, repetitive work. The team also includes experts from Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, Starling Bank, Portofino Technologies, Julia Computing, and D.E. Shaw.

WilsonAI eliminates the legal bottleneck by handling routine contract reviews, responding to frequently asked legal questions, and integrating seamlessly with internal legal knowledge bases. This allows in-house lawyers to focus on strategic legal work, improving response times and overall legal efficiency without additional headcount.

WilsonAI is building a proprietary Legal Large Action Model (LLAM), which enables it to understand legal workflows and improve automation over time. Unlike static AI tools, WilsonAI continuously refines its capabilities based on real-world usage.

Early deployments have demonstrated WilsonAI's impact: the AI paralegal automates over 50% of routine legal queries and accelerates contract review processes by up to 70%. This translates to significant time savings for legal teams, with in-house lawyers reporting they can redirect 15-20 hours per week to strategic work

Strategic funding to scale and expand adoption

With this funding, WilsonAI will further enhance its AI capabilities, expand its integrations with existing legal tech stacks, and accelerate customer onboarding across industries. The company has already deployed its AI paralegal with 10 high-growth technology companies, where early users ranging from General Counsel to junior lawyers are seeing significant efficiency gains.

Gus Neate, co-founder and CEO of WilsonAI, said: "In-house legal teams face increasing pressure to do more with less, yet they are still bogged down by repetitive tasks. WilsonAI is here to change that. Our AI paralegal augments legal teams at all levels, from General Counsel to junior lawyers, by handling routine work so they can focus on strategic priorities. We're seeing legal teams use the time saved to provide more impactful counsel and take on higher-value projects."

Alex Wang, co-founder and CTO of WilsonAI, said: "We're building an AI that doesn't just answer questions but actively participates in legal teams' daily workflows. By integrating with in-house legal data and processes, WilsonAI's AI paralegal becomes an invaluable team member, delivering efficiency and consistency at scale."

James Mumma, Founding Partner at Nomad Ventures, said: "WilsonAI is addressing one of the biggest pain points in corporate legal departments: the overwhelming volume of routine legal work. Gus and Alex have built a world-class team that understands both the legal and AI landscapes, and their AI paralegal has the potential to become an essential tool for in-house legal teams worldwide."
