Litéra Awarded Third Patent for Comparative Technology
Global News

Litera logoLitéra® has been awarded a third patent for its comparison technology which reveals the content differences between cells of two tables, independent of structural alterations. “Tables are often the most important part of a document because they highlight key information, such as business terms and financial information,” said Karen Massand, President of Litéra.

“Traditional comparisons obscure the critical information users need because they identify changes to both formatting and content. This creates ‘noise’ rather than filtering out the relevant content change.”

When tables are edited, the structure of the cells is generally adjusted to fit the new data. Filtering out only the content change highlights the relevant information simply and legibly, reducing the time it takes to identify the change and reducing the risk of overlooking it altogether.

U.S. Patent 8,381,092 was awarded to the global leader in content lifecycle management software, protecting the system, method and computer program product for comparing the content between corresponding cells of two tables, separate from changes to form and structure of the cells. The patent applies to tables in any file type, including not only Microsoft Word documents, but PowerPoint, PDF, email and HTML.

This marks the ninth total patent for Litéra Corp. and Litéra Technologies, LLC and the third patent protecting the technology in the Change-Pro® family of Litéra comparison solutions. It expands protection for advanced table comparison detailed in U.S. Patent 8,136,031. Litéra also holds a patent for a method of compound document comparison, allowing for the comparison of all embedded objects contained within a modified document.
